Northern Ireland - Antrim Coast

The Chaine Memorial Tower (top photo) was built in memory of James Chaine who contributed much to the development of Larne Harbour. After a request from mariners the 27m high tower was later converted into a lighthouse in 1899. Further along, the ruins of Olderfleet Castle (bottom photos) stand on Curran Point facing Larne Lough. Some say it was built in the 1200s and other say it is actually part of Curran Castle with this tower house being built in the 1500s. Whatever its name and origin, all that remains is a four-storey tower with pairs of gun loops in the basement.
